“Jian Ghomeshi could teach a master class in the art of the interview.”
The Salt Lake Tribune wrote that last week. It’s hard to disagree. Anyone who’s seen Ghomeshi at work likely harbors a hidden desire to be interviewed, or at least introduced, by the man. What are his rules for conducting a solid interview?
- Let them talk.
- Prove yourself to the subject.
- When you see an opening, take it.
- Let the subject plug his gig.
It seems simple enough. If you doubt his skills, watch him work his magic with interviewees as diverse as Werner Herzog, Brian Wilson and Kermit The Frog. Of course, anyone capable of making it through this infamous interview with Billy Bob Thorton is clearly no less than a master.
Jian really is a master interviewer and that’s not my huge crush talking and has nothing to do with the fact that he’s Persian. Nada. Zilch.
